A typical malignant ear tumour is squamous cell carcinoma which affects the middle ear and the mastoid (ear canal). It originates from the epidermal cells of the ear, the external auditory canal or the middle ear and the mastoid.
Diagnosis: this disease is often found in an ear with an otological problem, especially chronic suppurative otitis media.
There are also other malignant tumours that originate in the external auditory canal and middle ear including adenoid cystic carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, mucoepidermoid carcinoma and ceruminous adenocarcinoma.
Glomus tumors of the ear are benign tumors that originate from blood pressure control corpuscles distributed along the course of some middle ear nerves located at the base of the skull.
A small tumour of the tympanic chest. It is removed by lifting the tympanic membrane and accessing the tympanic cavity.
This benign tumour involves the tympanic cavity extending from the posterior bone to the mastoid. Removal surgery may need to be split over two procedures.
